Creston High School performs Disney’s ‘High School Musical’

Blood drive (Nov. 18)

A Red Cross blood drive will be held 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 18 at Orient-Macksburg School. Schedule an appointment online at redcrossblood.org.

Crossroads ‘First Responders’ Support Group’ (Nov. 19)

Crossroads Behavioral Health Services are hosting free support groups for first responders to share their experiences and offer each other support. There will be three sessions, this the second group starts at 4 p.m. Nov. 19. Call 641-782-8457 to register. The sessions will be held in person and via Zoom. A certified mental health therapist will be on hand to offer assistance.

Adult book club (Nov. 24)

‘Winter Wonderland on the Afton Square’ (Nov. 27)

Afton Community Club invites Afton residents, groups and families to decorate the square. Adopt a flower-pot tree to decorate with homemade ornaments. For more information contact the Afton Star Enterprise at 641-347-8721 to reserve a tree for decorating. Donations will be accepted.

Santa in Creston (Dec. 3)

Santa Claus will be greeting children 5 to 7 p.m. Dec. 3 through the drive-thru window at First National Bank on West Adams Street. Letters for Santa may be brought to him at this event and slipped through the teller drawer. Alternatively, letters to Santa can be mailed to his home address: Santa Claus, North Pole.

Creston Lighted Christmas Parade (Dec. 3)

Creston Chamber of Commerce is hosting its lighted Christmas Parade 7 p.m. Dec. 3 in Uptown Creston. No registration is necessary and all entries must be lighted. For more info, contact the chamber office at 641-782-7021.

‘Holiday Lights in the Park’ (Dec. 4-20)

Ringgold County Conservation and Ringgold Conservation Foundation are hosting the 3rd annual drive-through Holiday Lights in the Park at Poe Hollow Park, 2434 State Hwy 2, Mount Ayr from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. The event dates are Dec. 4, 5, 11, 12, 18, 19 and 20. Entry fees are $10 per car for each drive through. Display sponsors are located in the campground and you can vote on your favorite. The Dragoon Trace Nature Center will be open during the lighted park hours (except Dec. 20) so swing in for a visit and vote for your favorite displays. There will be a vendor fair at the nature center Dec. 5 and Santa and Mrs. Claus will be there Dec. 9 during the lighted park hours.

New this year: On Dec. 20 – Nursing Homes, Assisted Living and Group Homes may be admitted into the Holiday Lights in the Park free of charge. Call ahead to register your group at 641-464-2787. For more information call Ringgold County Conservation at 641-464-2787.

December nights and holiday lights’ drive through December(Dec 11-20)

Join the Creston and East Union FFA in a holiday lights show at the Union County Fairgrounds at Afton.

• Dec. 11, 12, 13 — 7 to 10 p.m.

• Dec. 18, 19, 20 — 7 to 10 p.m.

Creston and East Union FFA Chapters need donations for their light show display at the Union County Fairgrounds and are accepting donations of: Any Christmas/holiday related decorations, money, plywood, paint, extension cords, oats, glitter, sprinkes and sugar.
