Spartan runners land Nebraska state-medalist

Southwestern Community College Director of Cross Country/Track & Field Scott Vicker announced Thursday the signing of Conrad Schroeder for the 2021-22 fall season.

The Waverly High School (Waverly, NE) star is heralded as a versatile athlete who medaled at the Nebraska State Cross Country Championships this past season.

Schroeder finished 15th in Class B with his time of 17:07.1. He clocked a career best 5K cross country time of 16:57.85 at his district meet this fall in cross country, and is a three-year letterwinner.

Schroeder also runs in the spring, and will be a big addition for the Spartans in track. Schroeder has run 2:02.14 in the 800 meters and 4:40.23 in the 1,600 meters and owns career bests of 7:19.26 in the 2,000 meter steeplechase, 10:44.82 in the 3,200 meters, and 141 feet, 10.25 inches in the javelin.

“Conrad is a perfect example of the type of student-athlete we are wanting to build our program around,” Vicker said. “He has a strong work ethic and excels in several areas as an athlete. I believe he has the potential to be a breakout performer for us in both cross country and track. I know he is hungry for success this spring after not getting a junior track season. I am excited to see how he continues to develop as a track athlete this spring, and look forward to getting to work with him next fall.”

Schroeder is a three-year letterwinner in both cross country and track and field at Waverly High School. He intends to study welding at Southwestern Community College.
