Transfer station taking recycling bins back to area towns

MENLO — The Adair County Transfer Station is nearing its way back to full strength of operations.

The process began last week of moving bins from their temporary location outside the transfer station at 1645 Highway 25 to area communities, but that process will continue to take a few days.

The transfer station decided Sept. 28 to pull recycling bins from area communities because of a lack of truck drivers to collect them on a regular basis. COVID-19 complicated a staff shortage at the transfer station because of how long it is taking for drivers to obtain a CDL.

Kurt Reason, transfer station manager, said Monday that Greenfield and Stuart locations are almost back to full strength, which includes three bins. Two bins each are normally in Bridgewater, Casey, Fontanelle, Orient and Menlo, and Reason said there was at least one bin in each of those communities Monday.
