Bernadine Pendegraft, 86, of Creston died Sunday, Oct. 25, 2020, at EveryStep Greater Regional Hospice House in Creston. Celebration of Life services will be 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, 2020, at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Pastor Paul Vandevender will officiate the service. Masks are recommended and social distancing will be observed. Burial will be at a later date in the Farm Creek Cemetery in rural Henderson. Open visitation with family receiving friends will be at 1 p.m., one hour prior to the service Friday at Powers Funeral Home in Creston.

Bernadine NaWacy (McKinney) Pendegraft, daughter of Clarence Charles McKinney and Irma Inez (Norton) McKinney, was born Oct. 25, 1934, in Henderson. She was educated in Henderson community schools and graduated with the class of 1952.

Bernadine was united in marriage to Donald Dean Pendegraft in April 1952. She continued her education and obtained her cosmetology certificate. Bernadine also typed documents for their business, The Law Brief Company. They moved to Creston in 1959. The couple divorced in 1981.

While in Creston, Bernadine worked as a paraprofessional educator with Creston Schools and also was a special needs teacher’s aide. Bernadine was most happy when she was with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Bernadine was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Creston. She also was an avid bowler and enjoyed spending time with her friends at leagues and tournaments.

Surviving Bernadine are her children: Michael (Susan) Pendegraft of Des Moines, Ron (Teresa) Pendegraft of Creston, Ellen Hatcher of Oklahoma City, Carol (Shane) McKean of Oklahoma City, Richard (Julie) Pendegraft of Elkhorn, Nebraska and Debra (Jerry) Janing of Plattsmouth, Nebraska; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sisters Virginia Bowen of Hastings and Janice Duysen of LePort City; brother-in-law James Osler of Glenwood; along with many nieces, nephews and other extended relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, former husband Don Pendegraft in 2019, two great-grandchildren Phoenix and Wyatt Pendegraft, sister Evelyn Osler, son-in-law Lemuel James Hatcher and brother-in-law Floyd Bowen.
