Area Republicans have rally at Freedom Rock after Trump Parade

GREENFIELD — A short Freedom Rally was attended by those in support of the Republican ticket in this year’s general election Monday night at the Freedom Rock south of Menlo along Highway 25.

Despite unseasonably cool conditions, a large crowd gathered at the Adair County Courthouse with signs and flags adorning their vehicles. They eventually traveled around the square, down Iowa Street and north to the Freedom Rock in parade fashion.

Adair County Republican Party Chairman Ryan Frederick estimated the parade may have been “a mile long.”

During the approximately eight minute rally, Congressional candidate David Young spoke to those gathered, using a megaphone, after the occasion was opened by Rep. Ray Sorensen II leading The Pledge of Allegiance.

In his own words, Young detailed during the rally the basic tenets of Republican values — what he described as “the freedom of the individual, the entrepreneurial spirit, equal opportunity and that our rights come from God.”

Young voiced support for the party’s candidates, including President Donald Trump and incumbent Senator Joni Ernst (R-Red Oak), who is up against Theresa Greenfield (D-Des Moines).

“In 15 days, we’re going to have the most consequential election of our lifetime. I know everybody says the next election is always the big one — and it is, they’re all important — but there’s something bigger about this one, and I think you know why,” Young stated. “It’s bigger than anyone’s name, this is about whether we’re going to be true to the framers and founders, sacrifices and principles to remain a republic or veer off course to try something different that the other side wants to bring to the table.”

Young also voiced how hopeful he is for reclaiming the seat he previously held in Congress, currently held by Cindy Axne (D-West Des Moines).

“In 15 days, I’m in it to win it. Let’s get the President re-elected, let’s get Joni Ernst re-elected, and let’s get this seat back. I’m fighting very hard for you right now,” Young told the crowd. “Out here in God’s country, we can overcome Polk County. We’ve done it twice before and we can do it again.”
