IGHSAU, IHSAA release cross country state-qualifying sites

Class 1A qualifier rules changed in one-time adjustment for 2020

Listed below is the cross country state-qualifying assignments for CNA-area teams, as provided by the IGHSAU and IAHSAA.

In Mount Ayr, for Class 1A, Diagonal, East Union, Lenox, Mount Ayr, Nodaway Valley, Orient-Macksburg and Southwest Valley will run.

Joining the CNA schools is Bedford, Clarinda Academy, Earlham, Essex, Interstate 35, Martensdale-St Marty, Melcher-Dallas, Sidney, Southeast Warren, Van Meter and Wayne.

In Class 2A, Central Decatur and Red Oak will be among teams running at Panorama.

Creston will run in Class 3A’s Winterset location. Joining Creston will be ADM, Atlantic, Clarke, DC-G, Boone, Gilbert, Glenwood, Greene County, Kuemper Catholic, Perry, Saydel and Winterset.

Class 3A will run Oct. 21, with Class 1A and 2A running Oct. 22. Class 4A will also run Oct. 21.

The state meet in Fort Dodge has also been split over two days, with 4A and 3A racing on Friday, October 30, followed by 2A and 1A races on Saturday, October 31.

Due to changes in the IHSAA’s qualifications, which expanded 1A sites from five to eight, Class 1A will feature 16 state qualifying teams the top two teams qualifying at each site, instead of the usual three.

Ten individual state meet qualifiers for each gender instead of the usual 15 individual state qualifiers is also a change for the 2020 season in Class 1A.

The IHSAA and IGHSAU anticipate this will be a one-time qualifying change. Class 2A, 3A, 4A will remain unchanged on qualifying teams and individuals for the 2020 State Cross Country Meet.
