Clifford Kindred, 90, of Kent died Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at Creston Specialty Care. Celebration of life services will be Saturday October 17, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Pastor Mary O'Riley will officiate. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Creston with full military honors by Theodore J. Martins V.F.W. Post 1797 of Creston. Social distancing will be observed. Family requests masks and will minimize hugs and handshakes to keep everyone healthy. Open Visitation will be Friday Oct. 16, 2020, at the Powers Funeral Home in Creston from 2 to 7 p.m. with the family to receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Memorials are to be determined at a later date. Clifford Eugene Kindred, son of Doris Fern (Clark) and Gerald Warren Kindred was born March 3, 1930, in Dexter. Cliff lived in Guthrie and Adair counties in his childhood and graduated from Zion High School in 1948. He went on to serve his country as a part of the U.S. Army during the Korean War and then continued to serve in the U.S. Army Reserve for another six years.
On May 29, 1954, Cliff was united in marriage to Elizabeth Jean Bender. They settled on a farm near Macksburg where Cliff began farming. In 1957, he moved to Union County near Kent and continued to farm. In 1961, Cliff began working for the railroad as a conductor for the next 20 years and he also continued to farm. Cliff was a member of Theodore J. Martens VFW Post No. 1797, Creston Elks Lodge No. 605 and the Old Tyme Power Club.
Cliff is survived by his daughter, Connie (Robert) Cozzi of Hollywood, Fla.; two sisters: Charlene Israel of N.C.; Karen (Jim) Sackett of Sun City, Ariz.; granddaughter Brandi Cox of Cooper City, Fla.; four great-grandchildren: Taylor Rodriguez, Mya Rodriguez, Terra McMorris and Adromedia Hattaway, all of Cooper City, Fla.; and special friend Shirley Rice of Murray.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Elizabeth in 2008, son Stephen Kindred in 1990, father-in-law Art (Zelma) Bender, sister Norma (Don) Wearmouth, brother Larry Kindred, brothers-in-law: Robert Alleway and Charles Israel.
