ORIENT — With only 280 students in the entire school district, it can become hard to satisfy requirements auditors have when it comes to areas such as segregation of duties, but Orient-Macksburg Superintendent Bill Szackacs said he is pleased with the findings of a routine audit the school recently received.
Nolte, Corman and Johnson P.C. completed the recent audit which looked at the last fiscal year, which ended June 30.
Findings
The auditors found no issues of non-compliance in regards to financial statements.
Auditors commented and made suggestion to district officials on how to better segregate duties in these areas. Another area mentioned was that district expenditures for the year exceeded the certified budget amounts in the instruction and support services functions, so the district responded by saying that in the future, they will amend the budget where necessary.
Issues of an activity fund that had been monitored manually and left over money from graduating class accounts were both accounted for on the audit and resolved by district officials.
Response
Szackacas remarked that the school district is in “very good standing fiscally” and he looks forward to continuing to work with the school board in leading the district forward.
“The health of the budget is well managed. We’re in good standing, so we’re very pleased,” Szackacas said. “We monitor things very carefully and stay on top of things if things coming out of the state have an impact on our budget. We’re also keeping an eye into next year and the future as well.”
