CCHS Homecoming 2020: ‘Once Upon a Homecoming’

Creston Community High School will celebrate Homecoming 2020 during the week of Sept. 27 through Oct. 2.

The 2020 Creston Community High School homecoming queen coronation and pep rally will be held 1:30 p.m. Oct. 2 on the CCHS football field. School will be dismissed three hours early Friday. The rally will include performances from the CCHS Peppers, cheerleaders and band. Masks are required to attend.

Due to COVID-19, the community parade this year has been canceled. Instead, a “reverse parade” of decorations put together by the high school classes will be displayed during homecoming week along the usual parade route. Visitors may walk or drive uptown to view these and vote for their favorite displays.

Businesses may also choose to decorate their storefronts according to this year’s theme, “Once Upon a Homecoming.” Student government recommends taking inspiration from favorite fairy tales and/or Disney movies, etc. They also encourage decorating with “Creston Pride” colors, red and black, or go with a football theme. The Panthers’ opponents at the Friday homecoming game will be the Harlan Cyclones.

Additional homecoming events:

Sept. 27: Homecoming kickoff event begins at 1 p.m. in the CCHS gym. The community is invited to join as CCHS kicks off homecoming week with its traditional junior/senior competitions.

Admission is $5 (includes both events). Activity tickets will not be accepted. Money raised helps cover homecoming expenses (including fireworks after Friday night’s football game) and other student government sponsored activities throughout the year. Masks are required to attend.

Following the kickoff event, classes will decorate windows of businesses uptown to get into the homecoming spirit.

Because of COVID-19 precautions, there will be no high school dance this year.

More information on homecoming events will be published as it becomes available.
