Jeffrey Mathers, 78, of Adel died Thursday, Sept. 17, 2020, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. A celebration of life memorial graveside service will be 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21, 2020, at Morgan Cemetery south of Creston. Pastor Jeff Hill will officiate. Masks are recommended and social distancing will be observed. The service will be live streamed on the Powers Funeral Home Facebook Page. Full Military Honors will be provided by the U.S. Navy and Theodore J. Martens V.F.W. Post No. 1797.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Animal Rescue League or the New Hope Assembly of God Church Mission Fund. Online condolences may be given at www.powersfh.com.

Jeffrey David Mathers was born Oct. 20, 1941, in Creston to Keith Ames and Bertha Louise (Kline) Mathers. He graduated from Creston High School and attended Iowa Barber College and worked as a barber in Grinnell before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. He worked as an electrician on the U.S.S. Hassayampa based in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

In 1966, Jeffrey was united in marriage to Betty Tripp.

Jeffrey is survived by his wife, Betty, of 54 years; daughter Jodi Braack (Tony) of Shawnee, Kansas and their children Logan and Spencer; son Keith (wife Anndreia) of Grimes and their children Natalie, Skyler, Nathan, Navannah and Nashlyn; sister Leslie (Danny) Graves of Elgin, Texas.

Jeffrey was preceded in death by his parents.
