Freshman football roundup: Panthers fall to young Titans squad

Lewis Central 41, Creston/O-M Freshman 14

COUNCIL BLUFFS – Creston/O-M freshman football lost to Lewis Central 41-14 Friday.

The passing game was the strength and weakness for Creston/O-M’s offense. Cael Turner was 11-for-18 through the air with two touchdowns and 261 yards, but also passed for three interceptions. Brandon Briley had five catches for 67 yards while McCoy Haines had five catches, two touchdowns and 167 receiving yards.

Turner and Haines connected for two big scoring plays on 75 and 52-yard touchdown passes.

Austin Evans led the team with seven tackles. Brennan Hayes and Will Bolin􏰀er each attributed five tackles of their own.

“(Friday) was a battle between two very good teams,” Creston/O-M freshman head coach Kevin Cooper said. “At the end of the day, they made less mistakes than we did. We struggled on special teams and allowed a kickoff return and a punt return for a touchdown. Those are things we have to clean up to be successful. It is right back to work this week or another good opponent in Glenwood.”
