‘That’s the way it is’

It was with interest I read Randy Hughes’ editorial entitled “A Trump ‘translation guide’” in Tuesday’s edition of the Creston News Advertiser.

I am guessing Randy is auditioning to become a writer for late night television. He would fit in quite nicely as a contributing writer to “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” “Late Night with Seth Meyers, Real Time with Bill Maher and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

These are the types of opinions and untruths they love to deliver to their audiences on a nightly basis!

I can only wish for the days when the press was fair and balanced. It does not exist today. Where are news anchors with the integrity of a Walter Cronkite?

Cronkite, the CBS News anchor, famously became the most trusted man in America. I grew up watching his newscasts never knowing his political leanings, as it should be.

For nearly two decades, tens of millions of Americans tuned in to Cronkite to learn “that’s the way it is” every night during a rancorous age. Although Cronkite left the anchor’s desk at CBS Evening News more than a generation ago, he set the standard by which all other TV news anchors should be judged. A standard none of them today can attain.

Finally, although humorous, Randy, you added nothing to the debate and I’m pretty sure if your article is fact-checked it would be stamped “Very Opinionated” or “Fake News!” Regardless, I know whom I will be voting for Nov. 3.
