Anderson joins CNA editorial staff

Keri Anderson has joined the Creston News Advertiser editorial staff as staff reporter Aug. 31, covering public safety, library, schools and other general reporting. Anderson fills the position left behind by Dustin Maeder, who moved to Des Moines last month.

Anderson, 33, an Afton resident formerly of Creston, is a 2013 graduate of Northwest Missouri State University, where she obtained her Bachelor’s of Science in Journalism and was part of the Navigators student ministry. Anderson formerly contributed writing to the Northwest Missourian newspaper.

“I always liked writing as a young person and thought a degree in journalism was the most practical way to pursue that,” said Anderson.

In her free time, Anderson enjoys writing fiction novels and playing guitar. She is married to Andrew Anderson, who works for the Natural Resource Conservation Service. The couple met while attending the same church in Maryville, where Anderson lived for 10 years. Anderson and her husband recently purchased a house in the country, north of Afton, where they live with Flower, their pet ferret.

“We moved here to be closer to my family, so I look forward to spending time with them,” she said.

As a reporter, Anderson looks forward to becoming more familiar with area communities and the people living in them.

“I believe that people make the stories, the news, and so I look forward to getting to know people in the area and writing their stories,” she said.
