The Southern Iowa Trolley has updated its Facebook page to announce routes in Creston are suspended through Thursday. Service is expected to resume Friday. During this time, routes in Mount Ayr, Leon, Osceola, Greenfield and Corning are still running.
The cancellation of Creston routes was due to COVID-19 testing, which Transit Director Leesa Lester said was a proactive measure and that the agency’s drivers have not been knowingly or directly exposed to the virus.
“It was a case of someone had been exposed to someone who had been exposed to someone,” said Lester. “We are just trying to be proactive about it ... no one is ill or has any symptoms.”
Lester said the Creston routes will not be reinstated until the test results are back and show a negative result, which means the earliest SIT will open is Friday.
Since March, SIT has been taking extra precautions in sanitation and social-distancing aboard its fleet in an effort to protect its riders and drivers, many of whom are at high-risk.
