William M. “Bill” Blunck, 77, of Mount Ayr passed away Aug. 5, 2020, at MercyOne Hospice in Des Moines. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9, 2020, at the United Baptist Presbyterian Church west of Mount Ayr. The family will be present at the church from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Sunday. Burial will follow the services in the Benton Cemetery, where there will be military honors by Ringgold Post No. 172 and the U.S. Army Honor Guard. There will be an open visitation at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr from 12 to 8 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 8, 2020. A memorial fund has been established for the United Baptist Presbyterian Church.
Bill, son of Roy and Helen (Reece) Blunck, was born July 26, 1943, in Benton. He attended school in Benton until they consolidated with Mount Ayr High School where he graduated. Bill served in the U.S. Army Reserves from Jan. 18, 1965, and was honorably discharged Dec. 31, 1970.
Bill was united in marriage to Kathleen Larson. To this marriage was born two children. Bill worked for Elliott Farms for 50 years. He was a member of the United Baptist Presbyterian Church and loved to visit with people. Bill was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He loved following his grandsons’ activities and discussing the outcome of their sporting events.
Survivors include his wife Kathi of Mount Ayr; son Bill Blunck of Ankeny; daughter Annette Swaney of Barnard, Missouri; grandsons Brett and Dylan Swaney; sisters: Jean Davenport of Aurora, Colorado, Virginia Rees of Clinton, Joann Trullinger of Muscatine, Linda (Larry) Sickels of Mount Ayr, Nancy (David) Stephens of Norwalk, Donald (Mary Kathryn) Blunck of Des Moines; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; brother Bob Blunck and sister Judy Snedeker.
