FORT DODGE – Winterset finished its 2020 season under the bright lights of Kruger Field at Rogers Park in Fort Dodge, taking down top-ranked Carlisle in an 11-inning thriller by a 4-3 final.
The Huskies upset No. 2 ranked West Delaware in the quarterfinals to get Dallas Center-Grimes Wendesday night, winning over the No. 6 Fillies to get to the championship game.
Winterset gained the lead in the seventh, with Ava Lowden lacing a line drive down the left field line for a RBI double, scoring Allison Soderberg to go ahead 3-2.
Winterset was one strike away from winning in regulation before Carlisle's Reagan Rolling singled into right field to score the tying run.
It was scoreless until the 11th inning, when Lauren Carter hammered a two out line drive RBI base hit to center, which proved to be the game-winner.
Winterset took a 4-3 lead on Carlisle in the top of the 11th with two outs, and carried the one-run lead into the bottom of the 11th.
In total, there were 26 hits and 26 runners left on-base in the win for the Huskies. Carlisle also did not strike out once in the loss.
Players from Winterset selected for the all-tournament team include Natalie Drake, Jena Young, Bridget Stover and Thea Banning. Banning was selected as a captain.
