Amy Anita Shimer of Griswold, died July 28, 2020, at her home in Griswold at the age of 48 years, 8 months and 1 day. Amy was born at the Aurora Community Hospital in Aurora, Missouri, to Jerry Dean and Bonnie (Musgrave) Baxter.
Amy was baptized in the Baptist Faith in Missouri as a child. She attended Aurora Community School in Aurora, Missouri, and later the Monett Community School in Monett, Missouri. Amy worked various jobs as a housekeeper and janitorial positions in Missouri. During this time, she also raised her two children, Kelly and Vincent and helped raise her granddaughter. She then was employed at Red Monkey Spices in Republic, Missouri, for five years. In 2015, she made her home in Creston.
On June 10, 2016, she was united in marriage to Eric A. Shimer at the Candle Lit Church in Dallas Center. They lived in Creston until they moved to Griswold in April of 2019. Amy loved traveling over the road with Eric and got to visit most of the continental United States. Two of her favorite restaurants while traveling were Smokey Pokey BBQ in Stillwater, Oklahoma, and R Place in Morris, Illinois. Amy was an avid concert goer and had to at least attend one concert a year if not more if time allowed her to. She also had a large collection of cherished teddies. She enjoyed everything with horticulture and had several plants she loved to take care of. While living in Griswold, she was delighted to watch the Old Soldiers Reunion Parade for the last two years.
She is preceded in death by her father, Jerry Dean Baxter, and several aunts, uncles, and other relatives.
Amy is survived by her husband, Eric A. Shimer of Griswold; her daughter Kelly (Thomas) Vaughan of Neosho, Missouri; her son, Vincent (Tara) Swadley of Marionville, Missouri; her two granddaughters, Tatiana Clark of Monett, Missouri, and Brynleigh Rose Swadley of Marionville, Missouri; her mother, Bonnie Bollinger and significant other Mike, both of Aurora, Missouri; her brothers, Gerald Baxter and significant other Sue both of Aurora, Missouri; Rex Baxter and significant other Christy, both of Springfield, Arkansas; her sister, Shelia (John) Stewart of Neosho, Missouri; her mother-in-law, Anita Ruth Shimer of Creston; her brother-in-law, Robert Shimer of Creston; her nephews, Jayson and Brandon Shimer, both of Creston; her niece, Rebecca Shimer of Jamaica, Iowa; and other relatives and friends.
The family will greet friends 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, 2020, at the Rieken Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold. Following will be a procession from the funeral home at 2 p.m. for a graveside service at the Griswold Cemetery. Interment will be in the Griswold Cemetery. Everyone is invited to bring a lawn chair for the graveside service if you would like to be seated during the service.
