Hawkeye 10 all-conference baseball teams released

The Hawkeye 10 all-conference baseball team was released last week, with Creston putting three on the honorable mention list.

The three ballplayers selected were Gavin Gillam, Brayton Chesnut and Luke Latham.

Gillam, the team’s primary catcher, hit .294 with one home run and five RBIs. Gillam had 10 hits, two doubles and was led in hit-by-pitches with four.

Chesnut led the program in hitting (with a minimum 10 at-bats), hitting .333 in 30 official at-bats. He drove in four runs, had two doubles and had 10 hits.

Latham hit .222, driving in three runs. He walked 12 times, the second most on the team. He also pitched 9 1/3 innings, striking out eight.

Panther baseball struggled in 2020, finishing 4-10 with a 3-7 conference record in a pandemic-shortened season. St. Albert won the Hawkeye 10 at a record of 21-2 (9-1), making it was far as the state tournament before a 6-5 loss in the state quarterfinal to Newman Catholic.
