Senior 4-Hers honored virtually at beginning of Adair County Fair

Adair County Extension honored senior 4-H members on a virtual slide show as the Adair County Fair kicked off.

Seniors recognized are as follows:

Riley Abbott is the son of Bryan and Amy Abbott and is a member of the Jefferson Pioneers 4-H Club. He has been involved in SOFA, the Adair County 4-H Youth Council, rabbit and poultry projects. Riley’s favorite 4-H memory is stumbling into the Pride of Iowa Contest and offering his help only to end up becoming the Junior Superintendent.

Justin Clarke is the son of Kevin and Angie Clarke and is a member of the Jefferson Pioneers 4-H Club. He has been in 4-H for five years. Clarke’s favorite thing about 4-H is raising cattle, and he has been active in the Beef and Dairy Goat shows at the county fair.

Drake Davenport is the son of Derek and Beth Davenport. He has been involved in the Iowa 4-H Camera Corps, Adair County 4-H Youth Council and Shooting Sports. Drake’s favorite 4-H memories are being selected for the Camera Corps, and the first time a judge told him his project would be considered for State Fair. That same project was later selected to be shown at the Iowa State Fair.

Paige Donnelly is the daughter of Cory and Crystal Kirkpatrick and Trent Donnelly. She raises her own cattle and loves to show in the Beef and Sheep shows at the county fair.

Sammi Long is the daughter of Rob and Gina Long. She showed 4-H heifers at the State Fair along with her lambs. The highlight of her showing lambs was winning her division with a ewe last year and being selected Grand Champion Senior Showman in 2018. Sammi’s heifer last year was Champion Simmental and the 3rd Overall Breeding Heifer at the State Fair. Sammi won the Champion Market Lamb at the Best of the Southwest Shootout in 2019, and also won Reserve Champion Ewe.

Additionally, Adair County Extension added this about the memory of Sammi Long: “Sammi was more than just a showman, though she was an excellent one. She was a friend who always cared for anybody she met. Everywhere she went a smile would be left behind, and will smile forevermore.”

Meredith Marks is the daughter of Pat and Stephanie Marks and is a member of the Jefferson Pioneers 4-H Club. Marks’ favorite part of 4-H is showing horses.

Vinh Nguyen is the son of Mary Houghtaling. He has been involved in dairy goat projects, photography, and the Adair County 4-H Youth Council. Nguyen’s favorite part of 4-H is showing his dairy goats.

Maria Pruitt is the daughter of Jennifer Geil. Her favorite part of 4-H is the all the activities she did within her club. Giving back always made her feel good. One of her favorite memories is at county fair when they would all be down at the wash rack washing their livestock. Sooner or later, a water fight would break out on those hot summer days. She had lots of fun getting to hang out and meet other people.

Reagan Weinheimer is the daughter of John and Tracey Weinheimer. She has been involved in the Adair County 4-H Youth Council, swine shows, and was the Adair County Pork Queen in 2019. Weinheimer’s favorite 4-H memory is volunteering at the Blank Park Zoo and completing an Escape Room.
