Chamber of Commerce: July Happenings

This July is far from normal, but it certainly doesn’t mean that there aren’t activities for us to enjoy this 4th of July. One example would be the Decorating Contest celebrating the 4th. You just need to drive around Creston and select the business and home you like best and then contact either the Chamber at 641-782-7021, KSIB Radio at 641-782-2155, or the Creston News Advertiser at 641-782-2141 ext 6440 to share your votes. The contest runs through July 5 and is a great way to explore Creston.

Additionally, during July, the Gibson Memorial Library will present an Uptown Story Walk along Maple Street. The featured story will be “Five Bissy Honeybees” and they ask that you start at Salon G. The Library is also sponsoring a fun self-guided Uptown Scavenger Hunt during the month. You may pick up the information virtually at the library Facebook page or by visiting their website. A paper copy can be gotten at the Library and various Uptown businesses.

On July 3 there will be a temporary street mural painting taking place on Adams Street beginning at 9 a.m. and then the KSIB Cruise Night will take place on Adams Street from 6 to 8 p.m. Also on the 3rd, there will be an expanded Fridays After Five with the Elks serving food and providing music and a bags tournament with all proceeds going to the Elks various children activities that they sponsor throughout the year.

On July 4, area dancers will be performing in Uptown Creston beginning at 10 a.m. on Adams Street.

Highlighting some other activities and events in July include the Union County Fair which will take place at the Fair Grounds in Afton from July 16 to July 22. Visit their website for a schedule of events – www.unioncountyfairiowa.com.

Please mark your calendars for the McKinley Park Festival to be held July 25 out at McKinley Park. Activities are still being planned and this is always a great, fun family event.

The Chamber Annual Golf Outing will be held on July 31. What makes this golfing so much fun is that you play nine holes at Crestmoor and nine holes at Pine Valley including lunch and a BBQ at the end of golf. There are still a few open spots. If you are interested in a fun day of golf please contact the Chamber for more details.

Please visit the Chamber home page on our Website at: www.crestoniowachamber.com for more information on other activities and events taking place during the month.
