O-M graduate Kaufman self-publishes book entitled ‘Dreams of the Hunt’

PRESCOTT — Michael Kaufman is a 2011 Orient-Macksburg graduate from Prescott. He’s always enjoyed writing a few works and has written some songs. But recently, Kaufman took a big step in his writing by finishing a book called “Dreams of the Hunt.”

Kaufman learned how easy it is to self-publish through Amazon, so he has now published the book through the company and is selling copies online.

“Dreams of the Hunt” follows Ray Harris, an older gentleman who is an avid hunter, who has lost a close friend he met in the Navy, and he would frequently go on hunting trips with him. The story tells Harris’ story on one of his first hunts without his friend.

Kaufman served in the Navy. Kaufman said his travels during his time of service influences his writing.

“He’s by himself, has some memories pop up along the way and thinks of older times and things he’s done while he’s hunting a black bear,” Kaufman said. “He goes to a cabin he owns in the mountains of Montana. He had a longtime friend he had gone on the trip with but he dies so he goes on the trip by himself. On his way there and while he’s there things pop up from his past.”

Kaufman described the feeling of self-publishing a book as a good one.

“It felt good when a bunch of my friends re-posted it. It got a lot of people talking about it and buying it. Some people already reviewed it and gave it good reviews, so it felt good to see that,” Kaufman said. “It felt good.”
