Axne announces additional funds to COVID-19 Response Tracker, Iowa’s response cost nears $9.5 billion total

Rep. Axne Adds $215,000,000 to COVID-19 response tracker after response from second Iowa agency

DES MOINES – Rep. Cindy Axne (IA-03) announced the addition of $215,378,024 to her Iowa COVID-19 Response Tracker after receiving a breakdown of federal funding received by the Iowa Department of Human Services last week.

With the addition of these funding details, the tracker now includes details for how nearly $9.5 billion has been spent in Iowa in response to the ongoing COVID-19 public health crisis.

“I appreciate the Department of Human Services for providing details on what federal funding has been received already and what programs they are using to provide ongoing COVID-19 relief to Iowans.” Axne said, “I hope that other agencies will quickly follow their example and provide transparency and accountability for Iowa taxpayers. The effects of this crisis are far from over, and it remains critical for citizens to see how their government is responding to their needs.”

Last month, Axne wrote to eight federal and state agencies to demand detailed accounting of how taxpayer dollars had been spent fighting COVID-19 in Iowa. She launched her tracker to publicly record responses and provide details on the data that she has received.

With the addition of Iowa Department of Human Services’ information and the addition of grants provided through the Department of Justice’s Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding Program, the tracker now also accounts for $105,609,097 allocated specifically to cities, health systems, colleges, and other entities in Iowa’s Third Congressional District.
