Orville Hunemuller, 84, of Ankeny, formerly of Arispe died Sunday, May 10, 2020, at Sunny View Care Center in Ankeny. A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, May 22, 2020, at Powers Funeral Home, 612 N. Dodge St. in Afton. Rev. Jim Morris will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Open visitation with family receiving friends will be from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 22, 2020, at Powers Funeral Home in Afton. Social distancing precautions will be observed during this time. Orville G. Hunemuller, son of Harvey J. Hunemuller and Wilamina “Minnie” Sophia (Suhr) Hunemuller was born Nov. 25, 1935, in Jubilee. Orville attended Jubilee Community Schools. Orville began working in the Rath Packing House in Waterloo and later worked for his brother driving a dump truck.
On May 26, 1957, Orville was married to Loretta Viola (Merritt) at the Arispe United Methodist Church. They settled in Des Moines where he worked as a heavy equipment operator for Polk County and later drove trucks for Lynn Transportation and Centennial Corporation. In 1986 the couple moved to Arispe. Once in retirement, Orville continued to drive for area farmers and friends. Orville was an active member of the Arispe United Methodist Church. He later moved to Polk City and then to Ankeny to be near family.
Orville is survived by his son Joe (wife Sheila) Hunemuller of Polk City; a daughter Mary Ann Hunemuller; four grandchildren: Sylena Blanchard of Ankeny, Josh (wife Kelly) Hunemuller of Des Moines, Eric Hunemuller of Ankeny, and Alex (wife Chelsey) Hunemuller of Crivitz, Wisconsin; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Orville was preceded in death by his parents, wife Loretta Hunemuller in 2001, two sisters: Leota Woock and Lucille Covell, and two brothers: Oliver Hunemuller and Leslie Hunemuller.
