Adrian “Bud” McDowell

Adrian “Bud” McDowell, 45, of Leon died Saturday, April 4, 2020, at Decatur County Hospital in Leon. A celebration of life memorial service will be at a later date. Adrian “Bud” Alan McDowell, son of Jerry Lee McDowell and Bonnie Louise (Danielson) McDowell was born Nov. 25, 1974, in Creston.  Bud graduated from Creston Community High School in 1993. Bud went through training for the Marine Corps and was in the Marine Corps Reserves.

Bud had a relationship with Regina Keller for approximately 10 years. He worked at Hy-Vee in Ankeny and on various construction jobs in Creston, putting in roofing and flooring.

Bud married Heidi Gilleland in Des Moines April 1, 2012. They made their home in Des Moines, then moved to Creston in 2014. Bud did farm work and various other jobs. They moved to Kimbolton and later to Leon in 2018, where he worked as a stay at home dad.

Bud was a member of the House of Faith Open Bible Church in Des Moines.

Bud is survived by his wife Heidi McDowell of Leon; six sons: Daniel McDowell of Lorimor, Adrian “Bubba” McDowell of Leon, Evan Benton of Lorimor, Darlington Gilleland of Des Moines, Dakota (Heidi) Gilleland of Norwalk and Max (Danielle) Callahan of California; six daughters: Marissa McDowell of Lorimor, Ginger Gilleland of Leon, Arminta Gilleland of Sioux City, Katrina Gogel of Leon, Cheyenne (Sean) Snodgrass of Des Moines and Elsie Athis of Harlan; four grandchildren: Xander, Theodore, Elayna and Mazilyn (on the way); three sisters: Lora Gaiser of Des Moines, Lacey (Dave) Moore of Des Moines and Nicole McDowell of Creston; a brother Mitch Gaiser of Creston; and many nieces, nephews and other family.

Bud is preceded in death by his parents, his father- and mother-in-law Marvin and Virginia Gilleland, and other extended family.
