South Elm Street construction nears completion

Construction nears completion on the removal and replacement of the retaining wall located on the 600 block of South Elm Street in Creston.

“As far as replacement goes, it’s going to be poured either Wednesday or Thursday,” said Kevin Kruse, Creston’s public works director. “Once the wall is poured back in there and the form’s removed the city will go back in there and replace the sidewalk that had to be removed due to this.”

Upon completion of the wall, the sidewalk in the area will need replaced before it can be entirely reopened.

“It’ll be done as soon as possible,” said Kruse. “Within the next week or two hopefully.”

Additionally, Kruse said the city is in the process of a sewer repair at the corner of sewer repair at intersection of East Montgomery and North Pine streets.

“There’s been a barricade in the street where its caved in,” said Kruse. “We believe that a sewer main has been taking on dirt and causing a void.”
