‘Consider voting absentee’

I’m encouraging everyone in Union County who wants to vote in the June 2 primary election to consider voting absentee by mail due to the concerns with the COVID-19.

Absentee ballots must be requested by filling out the forms that are available on the Union County website www.unioncountyiowa.org or you can call the auditor's office 641-782-1701 and we can mail you the form(s). Requests may be submitted now. Secretary of State Paul Pate also extended the absentee deadline back to 40 days instead of 29. So once the ballots are ready, we will be able to start mailing them out around April 23.

Absentee requests must be received in the auditors office by 5 p.m. May 22.

Please remember that in a primary election you must choose a political party on the request form in order to receive the correct ballot. You will also need your driver’s license number or the Personal Identification Number — PIN — that was sent to you by the Secretary of State’s office if you do not have an Iowa driver’s license.

I am also looking at combining the polling places for the June 2nd primary election. More information on this will come at a later date.

For any questions you may have on the June 2 primary election, please don’t hesitate to call the auditor’s office at 641-782-1701. Office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
