The current status of tax season

As of the evening of March 19, the Iowa Department of Revenue extended both the filing and the payment deadline for Iowa individual income tax returns to July 31. The IRS has extended the payment deadline only to July 15. As of March 20, the filing deadline for Federal individual income tax returns is still April 15. It would be best if an extension is filed for an individual’s taxes at this time, until further guidance from the IRS is received. Those who utilize tax preparers should contact them and ask them to file the extension.
