Sports Desk: All-conference girls basketball players named to the Hall

“This coronavirus is something else,” I said. “Never thought that I would live to see all sports put on a hiatus.”

“As long as they keep the shopping malls open,” said JL.

“As serious as it is, maybe they should close them also,” said Legion Steve.

“Bite your tongue,” said Big Red.

“Seriously,” said Decatur Spence. “You can’t give it up long enough to make sure it is safe?”

“Maybe, we could self isolate ourselves in a clothes store,” said JL.

“Tell me which one, so I won’t go there,” I said.

“Are you serious that we should take more precautions?” asked JL.

“Yes you should,” said Patty Cakes.

“I second that,” said P. Buckmiller. “Need to take it seriously until it can be proven you don’t need to.”

“I suppose so,” said JL. “Is that why we are doing this week’s column by conference call?”

‘Yes,” I said. “Need to be as careful as we can.”

“ I agree,” said Decatur Spence. “Don’t feel like getting quarantined in a room with the bunch of you.”

“I second that,” said Legion Steve.

“What do we have to go on this week?” asked P. Buckmiller.

“Wasn’t the all-conference basketball teams released?” asked Patty Cakes.

“They were,” I said. “Let’s go with the ladies first.”

“Sounds appropriate to me,” said Patty Cakes.

“Stupid poem time,” said Decatur Spence.

Four NV girls made an all-conference team,

Doesn’t surprise me with a season so supreme.

Alyssa Davis and Maddax DeVault were selected to team one,

The coaches awarded them for a job well done.

Lexi Shike showed up as a member on the second team,

An honor that no doubt made her gleam.

Reagan Weinheimer was selected as honorable mention,

Her play really grabbed the coaches’ attention.

These four honors simply state,

The NV program is definitely great.

Hall of Fame

“I was reading that story you gave me on the 1941 girls’ all county team,” said Patty Cakes. “Maybe, we could use them as inductees this week.”

“Great idea,” I said. “This week’s inductees include Lorna Stoner, Jesse McMorran and Caroline Snyder from Bridgewater, Ruth Queck and Virginia Queck form Richland and Charlotte Pettit from Orient.”
