Don Damewood, 84, of Afton passed away Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2020, at Clearview Nursing Home in Mount Ayr. Celebration of life services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 29, 2020, at Powers Funeral Home in Afton. Rev. Jim Morris will officiate the service. Burial will follow the service in Maitland Cemetery in Maitland, Missouri. Military honors will be provided by the Theodore J. Marten's Creston VFW Post No. 1797 and the active duty United States Air Force. Open visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. Friday and family receiving friends 5 to 7 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home in Afton. Donald Lee Damewood, son of Leon Neal Damewood and Clarice Alberta (Lister) Damewood was born March 8, 1935, in Braddyville. Don enlisted with the United States Air Force and served his country for 24 years. While in active duty, Don and his family were stationed in Missouri, Texas, Nebraska, Arkansas, Illinois, and Hawaii. He was deployed on three overseas tours in Turkey, Thailand and Germany.

Don was united in marriage to Erma Marie McKinney May 18, 1957, in Maryville, Missouri . This union was blessed with three children: Tammy, Terri and Tony. Following Don’s retirement from the Air Force in 1979, he worked for ITEC Cable Company in Afton. He later worked for Bunn-O-Matic from which he retired in 1997.

Don was a member of the United Methodist Church in Afton, the Afton Lions Club and was a Board member of Fairview Housing in Afton.

Don is survived by his wife Erma of Afton; children: Tammy (Joe) Ross of Afton, Terri (Gary) McGuire of Rock Port, Missouri and Tony (Nikki) Damewood of Omaha, Nebraska; grandchildren: Chelsea (David) Reeve of Afton, Lynsi (Jake) Akers of Tingley, Holly (Dylan) Ver Helst of Creston, Jessica (Rickie) Jackson of Belle Chasse, Louisiana, Jason McGuire (fiancé Abby Athen) of Colby, Kansas, Jarrett Damewood and Macy Damewood of Omaha; great-grandchildren: Mikey, Morgan and Hayleigh Cooley, Jacob and Jalyn Akers, Baby Martin Ver Helst and Faith, Charlotte and Kolette Jackson; brothers-in-law: Marvin (Carol) McKinney and Larry (Rhonda) McKinney, both of Maryville, Missouri, and sister-in-law Mary Damewood of California. Don was preceded in death by his parents; sister Ardith Fine and brother Jim Damewood.
