RED OAK — Montgomery County Democrats Chairman Joey Norris announced Tuesday his intentions to run for District 12 of the Iowa Senate. Norris, a lifelong resident of Red Oak, wants to help communities in Southwest Iowa achieve their potential.
“Iowa’s 12th district needs someone active and involved in our local area to represent us in Des Moines,” Norris said.
Norris attended Iowa State University after graduating from Red Oak High School in 2008. He received his Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering. Returning from Ames, Norris showed his entrepreneurial spirit and started a business in his hometown.
Dream Forge, his small engineering firm, helps entrepreneurs and small businesses realize their potential by bringing their ideas to life. Norris sees the same potential in Southwest Iowa as he does in his clients.
“There is an incredible opportunity. Buildings are available for a fraction of the price as the big cities. Housing is far more affordable, and the general cost of living is lower,” he said.
High speed broadband internet is one of the biggest priorities for Norris. He wants to bring it to underserved areas as quickly and efficiently as possible. Having that access to better broadband can be a part of a larger solution to bring new opportunities to Southwest Iowa.
As part of his broadband efforts, Norris has spent a couple of years working with a public/private task force to bring Fiber to the Home to the remainder of Montgomery County. Norris was recently honored by the Montgomery County Development Corporation with an Excellence in Leadership award because of his efforts.
“Rural Iowa is ripe for a boom in reinvestment in our small towns. With the right leadership, focused on the economy of the future, we can make the pitch to invest in our communities,” Norris said.
Norris has served as chair of the Montgomery County Democrats since 2017. He’s the son of James and Jan Norris, as well as the nephew of former Gubernatorial candidate and public servant John Norris.
