Area boys basketball roundup: East Union takes down Lenox, Murray and Nodaway Valley fall

Martensdale-St. Marys 91, Murray 56

MURRAY – Then-Class 1A No. 9 Martensdale-St. Marys took down Murray 91-56 Friday.

The Mustangs kept up with Martensdale’s scoring attack, keeping the score at a manageable 38-26 deficit during halftime. Thirty points in the second half weren’t enough for the Blue Devils’ high octane offense, putting up 53 points in the final two frames.

Reece Held scored 29 points with four assists and three steals. Colton Siefkas put up 10 points of his own, to account for the Mustangs’ other double-digit scorer.

East Union 63, Lenox 52

AFTON – East Union took down Lenox 63-52 Friday night.

The Eagles put up 30 points in the first, while Lenox stayed close with 25 of its own. The Tigers’ offense slowed in the third quarter, scoring nine points while East Union put up 13 to seal the game away.

Nodaway
Valley 58

ANITA – Nodaway Valley fell in a one-point game, dropping a 59-58 matchup to CAM Friday.

Tied at 14 after the first quarter, the Wolverines put up 12 points in the second to take a 26-24 lead at halftime. Nodaway Valley put up 23 points in the third to take a 49-42 lead going into the final frame.

The Wolverines’ offense fell stagnant in the fourth, while CAM put up 17 points to edge out a lead.

Diagonal 62,
Mormon
Trail 51

DIAGONAL – Diagonal picked up a 62-51 win over Mormon Trail Friday to end the season on a positive note before entering postseason play.

The Maroons held the advantage after the first half, scoring 19 points in the first quarter which propelled them to a 28-20 lead. Mormon Trail’s offense picked up in the second half with 31 points, but Diagonal scored 34 of its own.

Three Maroons scored double-digits. Tyler Jarred led with 19, Skyler Stamps scored 13 and Caleb Hubbard put up 12. Kade Klommhaus and Will Strange grabbed double-digit rebounds with 12 and 10, respectively.
