Joy Lynne Mozena, 48, of Creston passed away Sunday, Feb. 9, 2020, at Greater Regional Medical Center in Creston. A memorial service will be held 4 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2020, at Pearson Family Funeral Service and Cremation Center, 809 W. Montgomery St. Pastor Rick Titus of St. John's United Church of Christ will officiate. A light meal will be served following the service in the funeral home community room. Joy Lynne Mozena was born in Kansas City, Kansas, April 30, 1971, the only child of Charles Eugene and Minnie Marie (Jackson) Bruce. At a very young age, Joy’s family moved from Kansas City to the Des Moines area. Joy was educated in the Des Moines Public Schools and graduated from Valley High School in West Des Moines. Following her graduation Joy began dating Michael Myers, who Joy knew from school, and they were blessed with a daughter Jasmine in 2003. The couple never married and Michael preceded Joy in death.
Joy was employed for nearly 20 years as a bookkeeper in the Des Moines area. In 2009, Joy and Jasmine relocated to Creston. Joy began working for Bunn-O-Matic on the assembly line until she could no longer work due to disabling back issues. Joy had been attending St. John’s United Church of Christ and local AA meetings.
Preceding Joy in death were her parents, Jasmine’s father Michael, and Jasmine’s uncle Brent Myers.
Joy is survived by her daughter Jasmine Myers of Ankeny, Jasmine’s paternal grandmother JoEllen Myers of Ankeny, Jasmine’s paternal grandfather Michael Myers of West Des Moines, and Jasmine’s cousin Anna Myers of Ankeny.
