Spread Love Local this weekend in Greenfield

Greenfield’s Spread Love Local Campaign kicks off this Thursday, Feb. 13 at 10 a.m. It runs through Valentine’s Day weekend. This marks the second time that Greenfield Chamber/Main Street has put on this event and they hope to continue it annually.

“We decided why don’t we do something to give back to the community, and show them that we’re not only here to sell them stuff but we’re always trying to give back to other causes around and help out,” said Gina School.

School is the owner of Colors Floral and Home Decorating and works as the Chair of Retail Committee for Chamber/Main Street, serving also as its Vice President. Participating businesses are hoping to raise money during this event to kickoff the Greenfield City Park’s fundraiser for new equipment.

School talked about how money will be contributed,

“Each business will collect money differently. Some people will have a donation jar, some will match every dollar, and others will donate a portion of their sales. Every business chooses how they want to give back,” School said.

Shopping locally is most important to School, and she says there’s lots of reasons for that.

“It keeps the money in the community. You’re paying sales tax here which keeps the money here in the community and most of the businesses around Greenfield are locally owned, so the money I’m making, I’m also spending it in town at other locally owned businesses,” School said.
