Harold Williams, 79, of Orient died Friday, Jan. 24, 2020, at Every Step Hospice House in Creston. Celebration of Life services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31, 2020 at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Open visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, 2020, at Powers Funeral Home, with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Burial will be in the Hill of Zion Cemetery. Harold Frank Williams was born Aug. 2,1940, in Adair County to George “Shorty” Williams and Myrtle (Foster) Williams. He graduated from Zion High School and attended Creston Junior College and Iowa State University.
Harold was united in marriage to Joyce Sheriff Dec. 20, 1959, at the Hill of Zion Church. They resided in Creston, Des Moines and Greenfield before moving to their present location in 1965. Harold was a cattleman and farmer.
Harold loved his time and activities with his children and grandchildren. He greatly enjoyed his connection to the Simmental cattle breed serving on the Iowa Simmental Board of Directors and was also the executive secretary. He served on the American Simmental Board, supervisor of the Simmental show at the Iowa State Fair. Other activities included: helping with the organization of the Adair County cattlemen’s, Orient-Macksburg school board, driving an Orient-Macksburg school bus and mowing for the Union County Parks.
He is survived by his wife Joyce; children Rod Williams (Linda) of Stuart, Roger Williams of Clarion, Gina Long (Rob) of Creston; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sister Evona (Paul) Petherick of Bettendorf. He was preceded in death by his parents and beloved Granddaughter Sammi.
