Chad Elliott to perform first show of The Lamoni Listening Room

LAMONI – Iowa singer/songwriter Chad Elliott will launch a new concert series in Lamoni, IA called The Lamoni Listening Room. The series will feature original songwriters from Iowa as well as across the nation.

“Live music is such a great way to bring energy to small communities. I am excited that this series will be focused on songwriters in an environment that the songs can be heard,” Elliott said.

Elliott will perform the first show on Feb. 1, 2020 at Living Art Studios, 133 E. Main St., Lamoni, IA. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show begins at 7:30 p.m.

“I look forward to playing songs I have written in my own hometown. Many of the lyrics are relatable to the folks I have been around my entire life. It is like the songs have landed in their birthplace,” Elliott said.

The show will be a listening-room style event, like venues such as The Bluebird Cafe in Nashville. The public is invited to attend and can expect stories, laughs and live music in a relaxed atmosphere.

“Half of the fun in attending a listening room concert is hearing the stories that inspired the songs. I have always loved knowing where a songwriter was when they became inspired to write a melody or lyric. It truly connects the listener to the music in a deep way,” Elliott said.

Snacks and nonalcoholic beverages will be for sale as part of a Lamoni winter play club fundraiser or attendees may bring their own beverages. There will be a donation jar, but no ticket is required. This show will be the first of five or six shows planned for The Lamoni Listening Room’s inaugural season.

“I have many friends who ask me where to play when touring through Iowa. It will be wonderful to bring them to Lamoni on their way to Des Moines, Minneapolis or Kansas City. I am confident that the caliber of good music coming to town is going to be very well received, and our small town hospitality will be very much appreciated by these road weary troubadours,” Elliott said.

Elliott's music blends folk roots, swampy blues and soulful writing to deliver an original Americana sound. His live performances have been honed over a decade of being on the road performing more than 200 shows each year. Elliott is lauded as "Iowa's Renaissance man" by Culture Buzz Magazine. He has penned more than 1,500 songs in his career while also cultivating his skills as a painter, sculptor, illustrator and author (Wilderman's Treetop Tales; Rumble & Flash).

Elliott has worked with many greats and shared the stage with artists of the highest caliber, includingOdetta, Tom Paxton, Loudon Wainwright III, R.L. Burnside, Greg Brown, Bo Ramsey, Eric Church, Brantley Gilbert, Counting Crows, Ruthie Foster, Lonestar, Jimmy Vaughan, etc. He has won coveted awards including the Woody Guthrie Song Contest and Iowa Blues Challenge. He placed 3rd in the International Song Contest with his Americana song, "Same Old Way."
