The National Weather Services is warning Iowans of a large low pressure system that spread two episodes of wintry precipitation across the state today and into the weekend
The first push should bring snow and blowing snow through central sections with freezing rain and a wintry mix south this afternoon, both lasting into at least the evening hours. The
second push Saturday into the early evening hours east will mainly be snow and blowing snow. Moderate to heavy snow storm total accumulations are expected over the southeast two-thirds of Iowa by the time the storm ends Saturday evening.
Precautionary and preparedness actions
NWS advises commuters to keep an extra flashlight, food and water in
vehicles in case of an emergency.
