Music at the Winery (Jan. 5)

In addition to being Winterset High School’s band director, Lucas Petersen is one half of the acoustic duo “The First Name Band” a cover band that has been entertaining in venues across Iowa, South Dakota, Nebraska and Kansas for the past seven years. From 2 to 4 p.m. Jan. 5 he will be playing at the Covered Bridges Winery, 2207 170th Dr., Winterset. The set will include a little bit of everything: Classic Rock, Country, 90’s Alternative, Irish, Rock and much more.

ALS Charity Night (Jan. 11)

Comedian Roger McQueen, The Voice finalist Terry McDermott and local band Fat Moses perform 7 p.m. Jan. 11 at the Eagles Club #1398. Proceeds from the event will be donated to the ALS Foundation in honor of Jay Bochart and others affected by Lou Gehrig’s disease. For tickets, contact Bill Oetken at 641-344-7623.

John Delaney on tour (Jan. 14)

Democratic presidential candidate Congressman John Delaney will be crisscrossing Iowa for the entire month of January on a small town blitz of 40 stops, a journey he’s dubbed the Send A Message Tour. Meet the candidate 5 p.m. Jan. 14 at Iron Horse Grill, 123 S. Main St., in Osceola.

Mount Ayr Cow/Calf Forum (Jan. 16)

The Iowa Cattlemen’s Association is hosting the Mount Ayr Cow/Calf Forum 5 to 9 p.m. Jan. 16 at Southern Iowa Rural Electric Cooperative, 1502 W. South St., in Mount Ayr. Registration begins at 5 p.m. Topics include cow nutrition and calf performance, Iowa Cattlemen’s Association and Iowa Beef Council update, and a market outlook. Union County Republican Planning Committee meeting (Jan. 16)

The Union County Republicans will be planning out the upcoming precinct caucus event and discuss setting up entertaining and informative events for the future. Face Off Against Cancer (Jan. 28)

A fundraiser for the Great Regional Health Cancer Center sponsored by Creston Cast, FBLA and the Creston/OM wrestlers during the Harlan & Lewis Central Dual Meet is slated for 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 28 at Creston Community High School.

Precinct caucus hosted by Union County Iowa Republicans (Feb. 3)

Precinct Caucus is the first event in deciding delegates and representatives from the party for deciding its nominees and party platform. The event is 7 p.m. Feb. 3. Five Creston precincts will meet at Creston Community Middle School. Precincts in Afton, Arispe and Lorimor will meet at the Afton Community Center. The Homestead Pickers perform in Mount Ayr (Feb. 8)

The Homestead Pickers are performers from Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri, who will be performing 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Feb. 8 in the Mount Ayr High School Auditorium at 1001 E. Columbus St. in Mount Ayr. The band performs bluegrass, gospel, country and comedy with instruments including guitars, fiddles, banjos and harmonicas.
