Jimmy LaVern “Louie” Christensen was born September 24, 1951, the son of Arnold James and Gladys May (Carl) Christensen at Adair County Memorial Hospital in Greenfield, Iowa. Jimmy passed away on Friday, December 20 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines at the age of 68.
Jimmy was raised in Grove Township in Adair County. He attended country school until the family to moved to Greenfield when he was in second grade. He was active in FFA throughout high school and graduated from Greenfield High School, class of 1970.
During high school and after graduation, Jimmy worked with his Dad, at Chris’s Refrigeration, until he joined the Iowa Department of Transportation, where he retired in 2009 after 35 years of service.
Louie as his family and friends knew him hadmany gifts but will best be remembered for his love of the outdoors. His favorite hobbies included hunting and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Gladys Christensen.
Jimmy is survived by his two sisters, Peggie Kinney (Frank) of Prosper, Texas and their children Matthew, Jordan and Tyler, Carol Woosley (Larry) of Greenfield and their children Kevin (Rhonda) Kreis, children Cameron and Caden, Kate (Kyle) Claflin, son Nathan, Eric (Melissa) Woosley. Longtime companion, Ginger Thompson, her children Brenda (John) Clayton, Butch Thompson, Sherri (Darin) Beitz, eight grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m. Dec. 23 at Greenfield United Methodist Church with burial in the Greenfield Cemetery. Pastor Eric Schubert officiated the service. Family greeted friends 4 to 6 p.m. Dec. 22 at Steen Funeral Home in Greenfield.
