Holiday Lights in the Park (Nov. 29 and 30)

Ringgold County Conservation and the Ringgold Conservation Foundation is hosting a holiday lights in the park event at Poe Hollow Park. Visitors will be able to drive through Poe Hollow Park, marveling at the lighted displays in its bright, winter wonderland. During the event, the Dragoon Trace Nature Center will be open. A vendor fair will also take place at the nature center on Dec. 7. and Santa and Mrs. Claus will be at the nature center Dec. 14 during the lighted park hours. Hours are 5:30 to 9 p.m. Nov. 29, 30, and Dec. 6, 7, 13 and 14. Admission is $5 per vehicle. Call 641-464-2787 for questions.

Holiday Lighted Parade in Corning (Nov. 30)

The 22nd Annual Holiday Lighted Parade in Corning will be 6 p.m. Nov. 30. The route will go North on Benton Avenue from 6th to 9th streets and South on Davis Avenue from 9th to 6th streets.

Mommies & Mules Christmas Vendor Market (Dec. 2)

Reflections Beauty is hosting the annual Mommies and Mules Christmas shopping event 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Dec. 2 at A&G Restaurant and Lounge. Attendees of this event will find gifts ranging from bath and beauty to home decor and more, many of which are made by area artisans.

Taste of Union County (Dec. 5)

EveryStep Home Care is hosting December’s Taste of Union County 4 to 7 p.m. Dec. 5.

Taste of Union County is occurring in conjunction with “There’s No Place Like Creston for the Holiday’s” and we will end right as the lighted parade begins. Java J’s will have free fudge samples and Jenny’s Cakes will be offering samples of festive holiday treats from their bakery. Local businesses in the uptown district will also be participating with discounts you can only receive by stopping in to see us first! You will also receive free vouchers to use throughout this holiday season, as you shop Creston and shop local.

Meet and greet with CCSD superintendent Deron Stender for updates at Creston schools 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Dec. 5 at Hardys, 807 W. Taylor St.

Creston’s Lighted Christmas Parade (Dec. 5)

“There’s No Place Like Creston for the Holidays” Lighted Christmas Parade will take place 7 p.m. Dec. 5 at 7 pm. The parade begins at the corner of Pine and Mill streets, then turns south at Elm Street to Montgomery Street. The parade then turns west until Division Street to Adams Street and ends at Walnut Street.

Festival of Trees (Dec. 5)

American Home Design Center is hosting its Festival of Trees silent auction 9 a.m. Dec. 5 until the commencement of the Lighted Christmas Parade. Decorated trees, donated by area business and individual sponsors, will go to the highest bidder during a silent auction. All proceeds go to the Crisis Intervention and Advocacy Center. Southwestern Community College Athletic Fundraiser (Dec. 6)

The annual SWCC Athletic Fundraiser is 6 to 10 p.m. Dec. 6 at Supertel, 800 Laurel St. Refreshments and appetizers start at 6 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m. and a program at 7:45 p.m. Auction and raffle to follow. Surviving the holidays (Dec. 6)

Tuba Christmas at SWCC (Dec. 7)

Tuba Christmas returns to Southwestern Community Collete 4:30 p.m. Dec. 7. Tuba Christmas is a collective of tuba, baritone and euphonium players who gather to perform holiday music in memory of the late William Bell, a world-renowned tubist, who was born Dec. 25, 1902, in Creston. The idea was conceived in 1974 by Harvey Phillips as a tribute to Bell, his late teacher and mentor. If you are interested in being part of the performance please contact Wade Sick at 641-202-3011.

Trimming the Tree (Dec. 7)

Kindergarten through 5th grade children are invited to join Gibson Memorial Library and Southern Prairie YMCA staff to make tree ornaments for decor or gifts 10 a.m. to noon Dec. 7 at the Gibson Memorial Library, 200 W. Howard St., Creston. Register by calling YMCA at 641-782-9622 or sign up in person at the YMCA or at Gibson Memorial Library. This is a free event for the public.

Pearl Harbor: A child’s perspective (Dec. 7)

Join DMACC professor Lisa Ossian to hear the story of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor from a child’s perspective. Ossian has authored books and articles on US history, including “The Forgotten Generation: American Children and World War II.” This program is sponsored by Humanities Iowa. This free event will be held 1 p.m. Dec. 7 at Gibson Memorial Library.

Leslie’s Dance and Tumbling Showcase (Dec. 8)

Leslie’s Dance & Tumbling Presents, “Winter Stage Showcase” will be held 4 p.m. Dec. 8 at the Southwestern Performing Arts Center inside Southern Prairie YMCA.

Joyful Noise presents “O Holly Night” (Dec. 8)

A community Christmas concert performed by Joyful Noise, 1:30 p.m. at Creston Community High School.

Creston Middle School Band and Vocal winter concert (Dec. 9)

CCMS band and vocal concert will be held 7 p.m. Dec. 9 at the school.

Holiday Tea at the Village, Historical Village (Dec. 11)

Learn about Union County history during a throwback holiday celebration 1 p.m. Dec. 11 at the Union County Historical Village in McKinley Park.

Creston High School Band and  concert (Dec. 12)

CChS band and choir concert will be held 7 p.m. Dec. 12 at the school.

Music of Vince Gauraldi (Dec. 13)

Contemporary pianist Donovan Johnson and friends are performing the music of Vince Gauraldi of Charlie Brown/Peanuts fame back to the Corning Opera House to Dec. 13. Admission is $15 in advance and $20 at the door for adults, and $5/$10 for students.

CARE will host a gift and bake sale to raise funds for its mission 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 14 at the Creston Restored Depot mealsite, 116 W. Adams St.

Trivia Night Speech Fundraiser (Dec. 14)

The 4th Annual Trivia Night Speech Team Fundraiser is 6:30 p.m. Dec. 14 at The Lobby Bar. Proceeds from the event benefit Creston Community High School speech team and will help offset the cost of costumes, scripts, medals and entry fees for more than 85 students. This ugly sweater themed event offers bonus points for anyone wearing one. Teams of two to four people are $40 a team and may register at tinyurl.com/2019CCHStrivia.
