Class A all-district 9 teams released

Individual awards, all-district academics included

The Class A all-district 9 teams were released this week with Southwest Valley and Nodaway Valley lining both the first and second teams on offense and defense.

Southwest Valley’s Brendan Knapp was selected as a running back to the all-district offensive first team.

Knapp rushed for 748 yards on 120 attempts, averaging 6.2 yards per carry. He scored 11 times. Knapp was also a quarterback for SWV, passing for 585 yards with three scores and four interceptions.

On the defensive first team, Tallen Myers was selected as a linebacker and Tucker Tepoel was selected as a punter.

Myers posted 67 tackles, the team-high. He had six stops for a loss and two fumble recoveries.

Tepoel punted 18 times, averaging 36.4 yards per punt with a season long of 50.

SWV’s presence on the second team was even deeper as Kaden Jacobs was selected for the all-district offensive second team as an offensive lineman.

SWV’s offense produced 2,220 yards of total offense with 19 scores. The Timberwolves finished the season with a record of 3-6 (1-4) in district, placing fifth overall.

Tyler Pearson cracked the all-district second team on defense, getting selected as a linebacker. Hunter Crill joined him as a defensive lineman and Blake Thomas was selected as a defensive back.

Pearson had 35 tackles, two for a loss. Crill had an interception which went for an 18-yard score, 18 tackles and three sacks.

Thomas had three interceptions and totaled 68 return yards. He had 14 tackles.

Blaine Venteicher was selected as an honorable mention for Southwest Valley also.

Venteicher rushed for 269 yards on 46 attempts, averaging 5.8 yards per carry. He was the team’s leading pass catcher with 15 receptions for 267 yards and two scores.

For individual awards, the Timberwolves were represented by assistant coach Allen Naugle.

Naugle and Earlham assistant coach Brian Sheffield were named assistant coaches of of the year for Class A District 9.

NV present on both sides

Nodaway Valley had one player selected to the all-district offensive first team. Ryan Randall received the honor, getting picked as an offensive lineman.

Randall was part of an offensive line that totaled 2,650 yards of offense. The Wolverines scored 29 times on offense, averaging 5.1 yards per play. They finished 3-7 with an 0-5 record in district play, just one year removed from a winless season.

Caelen DeVault was selected to the all-district first team on defense, making it as a defensive back.

DeVault posted 43 1/5 tackles, four coming for a loss. He also led the team in interceptions with three and had one fumble recovery.

NV also had Hunter Ernst selected as a wide receiver for the offensive team.

Ernst was the leading receiver for the Wolverines, catching 30 passes for 583 yards for an average 19.4 yards per catch. He scored five times, including a 75-yard score.

On defense, Clay Hohertz (defensive back), Adam Ayase (linebacker) and Colby Harris (punter) were selected to the second team.

Hohertz made 52 1/2 tackles, four coming for a loss and picked off two passes. Adam Ayase made 50 stops, nine for a loss and had four solo sacks.

Adam Ayase also picked off one pass.

Harris’ punted 35 times, racking up 1,030 yards. He averaged 29.4 yards per punt with a season long of 50 yards.

The final second team selection for the Wolverines was Tony Ayase, making the season team as a specialist.

Tony Ayase had 71 tackles and 19 tackles for a loss, both team highs. He also rushed for 643 yards as the team’s leading running back and scored five times.
