Accidents

No citations were issued after an accident 2:20 p.m. Thursday on 160th Street.

According to a Union County Sheriff’s report, Steven Provost, 27, of Decatur, was driving a 2018 Jeep east on 160th Street when a deer jumped in front of the vehicle, striking the front windshield and driver side.

Estimated damage was $5,000.

No citations were issued after an accident 7:51 a.m. Tuesday on North Cherry Street.

According to a Creston Police report, Logan Osterhout, 16, of Creston, was driving a 2006 Buick north on Cherry Street when he claims a dog ran out in front of his vehicle. Osterhout initiated the brakes and lost control, running into the back end of a parked 2006 Chrysler. When officers arrived, Osterhout’s vehicle was laying in the middle of the road up north from the initial impact, facing south. Osterhout has no recollection of what occurred after the initial impact. Both vehicles sustained disabling damage and Osterhout was transported to Greater Regional Medical Center for further medical attention.

Estimated damages were $1,500 to Osterhout’s Buick and $1,500 to the parked Chrysler.

No citations were issued after an accident 12:07 p.m. Tuesday on North Cedar Street.

According to a Creston Police report, Traci Hartwick, 42, of Creston was driving her 2006 Ford south on Cedar Street behind a 2000 Mack semi-truck driven by Merle Walter, 64, of Mount Ayr. Walter was not sure his vehicle could go under the upcoming underpass and began to back up. Walter hit Hartwick’s vehicle behind him, and she was unable to avoid his vehicle due to a vehicle behind hers. Walter was issued a warning for unsafe backing.

Estimated damages were $2,500 to Hartwick’s vehicle and $100 to Walter’s vehicle.
