First Christian Church Mary Circle

First Christian Church Mary Circle met at the home of Alice Bowers 2 p.m. Oct. 17.

President Pat Fils called the meeting to order with an opening prayer. Barb Janning gave the treasurer’s report. The old and new business was discussed and approved. Closing prayer was shared by all.

Bower gave the program on Gideon and Joseph. Give our full attention and be confident, God will Guide through people through their challenges.

Bower served dessert while the club shared stories about the good old days.

Next Meeting will be Nov. 14. Joyce Burkhead will give the program and Averet Lymen will hostess.

IA TOPS No. 1338 Creston

IA TOPS No. 1338 Creston met Oct. 14 at FUMC with nine members present. Carol Sheldahl called the meeting to order with the Tops pledge. Best loser was Sheldahl and runner-up was a tie between Shellie Adams and Donna Scheel. Fines for last week to treasury.

Bev Roberts read minutes and Alice Brown gave the treasurer report. We can use Tops website for cards and recipes now. The club Gumball Goal contest will continue, and Mitzie Cellan will be working on our next contest. Gert Trost gave a program “Twenty Diet Tips That Can Change Your Life.” Such as don’t let anyone love you with food or weigh yourself every morning for the rest of your life. Next weeks program will be given by Shellie Adams. Squares contest was won by Sandahl. The red can challenge is #14 – No eating after 7 p.m. except small snacks. The meeting was adjourned by Sheldahl at 6 p.m. with “You Take My Hand.” Next weeks weigh-in starts at 5 p.m.

Roberts read minutes and Alice Brown gave the treasurer report. The club Gumball Goal contest has team b ahead by one point. The club received a letter from Tops Headquarters praising them for adding more members.

Shellie Adams gave the program as a test, she gave out 16 ounces of water to each member. They drank the water and re-weighed to see the difference. The club was surprised how it added up. Next weeks program will be given by Mitzie Cellon. Squares contest was won by Gert Trost. The red can challenge is #29 – walk before a meal twice this week. The meeting was adjourned by Sheldahl at 6 p.m. with “You Take My Hand.” Next weeks weigh-in starts at 5 p.m.

Friends of the Library Board

The Friends of the Library Board met on Oct. 21 with the following people present: Cynthia Blakely, Starr Cure, Judy Hoakison, Kay Raymond, Julie Schieffer, Barbara Thomsen and David Hargrove.

The agenda and minutes were approved as written and the treasurer’s report was placed on file for audit.

Hargrove reported Taste of Union County Trick Treat On Elm Street began at the library Oct. 23. Crafts, treats and stories for children were on the lower level and Hot Air Brewing Co., CrossFit, Panther Perk, the Crossing and Amoricto Pastries were on the upper level. Eleven additional businesses participated on Elm Street. The new carpet in the children’s area may be installed the last of October or the first of November. Two authors will be presenting programs on Nov. 6 and 23

A card was sent to Sue Teutsch wishing her well and that we are thinking of her after her recent surgery.

The Used Book Sale was reviewed and the hours were set for next year.

Cynthia, Judy and Julie will process Pre-School books to be given out this FOL Week. The Friends group will be hosted the UCDA coffee on October 25.

Photos with Santa was discussed and will be finalized next meeting.

The next meeting will be 5 p.m. Nov. 18.

Kiwanis

The weekly Kiwanis meeting was held 12:05 p.m. Oct. 22 at Pizza Ranch meeting room with 21 members and three guests. President Bob Miller presided, Drew Henderson did the prayer and Julie Lang was the finemaster.

The Club is selling fresh evergreen decorated wreaths and swags in until October 29 for delivery in November. See a Kiwanis member to order or the Creston Kiwanis Facebook Page. The fresh evergreens will be delivered close to Thanksgiving to enjoy the whole holiday season.

The Annual Kiwanis Keep a Kid Warm coat giveaway was held 5 to 6 p.m. Oct. 22 at the Methodist church. Thank you to all the members that helped the children with new coats.

The Annual Budget Meeting for the new Kiwanis year will now be Oct. 29 after the monthly board meeting.

Program was Peg Anderson, Kay Raymond and Sam Baird they told the group about the McKinley Lake, Library and MPAC bond issues on the ballot Nov. 5. All bonds are up to two million dollars. The library one will expand and renovate the current library and double it in size to meet more of the communities needs. The McKinley lake bond would pay for dredging the lake to encourage more recreational options. The MPAC would allow for a new pool with lots of fun water activities for all families and help make the park area a draw for a lot more visitors.

Greater Regional Health Auxiliary Board

The Greater Regional Health Auxiliary Board met Oct 14 with 14 members present. Monte reported: looking at telemedicine/virtual health. Checking out the infrastructure and technology needed. May be in place sometime in 2020; LeAnn Berg is up and running with pediatric psychology; the remodeling at the MAP entrance should start in January. Still figuring out the logistics; reconstruction for rehab should be done in March; a recent survey of employees found that additional day care providers/centers are a high priority. GHR is looking into the problem and is talking to the school district and others trying to find a solution; the foundation has also stated that a community center capable of 500 people is also something they are looking into at this time.

Additional storage areas for the gift shop was discussed.

Betty Wallace was welcomed as a new auxiliary board member.

There are now 81 volunteers.

Dates to remember: Oct. 16 – collective goods sale. Nov. 11 – next meeting. Nov. 19 through 20 – the Nutman company. Dec. 2 – $5 jewelry sale.

The Greater Regional Health Gift Shop Committee

The Greater Regional Health Gift Shop Committee met Oct 14.

Jordan announced that an order for more GRH logoed shirts in a new style are in the works.

The gift shop Christmas Open House is Nov. 5. Take down and decoration will be done the days before and the shop will be closed Nov. 4.

The storage area is still awaiting new carpet squares to replaces those damaged by the water problem. It was also noted that the storeroom door needs to be kept clear and the top storage items need to be at least 18 inches from the ceiling.

Jordan stated that the GRH will host the business coffee in the gift shop 8:30 a.m. Nov. 8. The committee will be present.

Kevin Young is the new represenative for Kelli’s Gifts.

Dates to remember: 1:30 p.m. Oct. 15 Quality Hill, 10 a.m. Oct. 22 CBK, 9:30 a.m. Nov. 11 next meeting.

Ladies Lakeshore Auxiliary

The Ladies Lakeshore Auxiliary met on Oct. 16. The canasta winners were Loretta Kelly first, Sherry Parrott and Mary Kline second, and Judy Nissin third.

Winner of the door prize was Loretta Kelly. The next meeting for cards and chatter will be Oct. 30 and the hostess will be Joy Seeley.
