Jack Ray Taylor, 81, of Diagonal, died Oct. 6, 2019, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Oct. 10 at United Church of Diagonal. Rev. Gwen Trullinger will officiate. Burial will follow in Diagonal Cemetery. Open viewing will be at the United Church of Diagonal on Oct. 9 from 3 to 8 p.m. with the family present 5 to 7 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the family. Jack Ray Taylor, son of Clifford and Lorabel (Cornelison) Taylor was born December 23, 1937, on the family farm in Diagonal.
Jack attended country school at Lincoln No. 7 and graduated from Diagonal High School in 1956. He then attended Creston Junior College graduating with a two year degree. After college he worked for Watson Brothers in Des Moines before joining his father in farming on the family farm. Later, Jack sold insurance for Watson Insurance Agency in Diagonal.
Jack married Dixie Della Watson on June 19, 1959.
Jack Taylor has been a member of the United Church of Diagonal, Diagonal Lions, Masonic Lodge, Creston Elks Lodge, Ringgold County Posse, and the Diagonal Cemetery board.
Jack is survived by his wife Dixie Taylor of Diagonal; daughters: Darla (Gary) Sobotka of Mount Ayr, Karen (Shon) Berry of Creston, Patty (Chris) Eaton of Mount Ayr; son Jim (Lisa) Taylor of Diagonal; brother Gary (Jean) Taylor; sisters: Janelle (Larry) Dalbey and Sharla (Owen) McCarron; thirteen grandchildren: Rachel (Michael) Inloes, Cody (Stephanie) Sobotka, Matthew (Caitlin) Sobotka, Alex Sobotka, Austin (Cassie) Berry, Lindsay (Brett) Street, Jacob, Ty, Bailey and Caleb Taylor, Logan, Connor and Abby Eaton. 11 great-grandchildren with one on the way.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, sister Deanna Warin, parents-in-law Elbert and Alberta Watson, sister-in-law Ann Warin, brothers-in-law: Bill Warin, Larry Pratt and Mark Watson.
