O-M to celebrate homecoming next week

Orient-Macksburg observes its homecoming week next week.

The festivities begin this Sunday, Sept. 29, with a 6 p.m. volleyball game for all high school students and continues through the following Saturday to the coronation and dance.

“The kids are always excited about homecoming. They like the dress up days and the day that the classes play games against each other. It’s a good time for them all to show off their school spirit,” said Jennifer Ray, O-M homecoming sponsor. “Coronation is always exciting. The student council kids work hard decorating the gym to make it special for homecoming.”

The school dress up day Monday will be “Squad Day,” where students can form groups that all dress alike. At 4:30 p.m. that afternoon, the Bulldog cross country teams will host their annual home meet at Lake Orient. Following the meet, at 6 p.m, a bonfire and hot dog roast will be held at the lake.

Tuesday, Oct. 1, will be TV Show/Movie Day. Wednesday will be Red/White Day and Thursday is Decade Day where students can dress like their favorite decade. Friday will be Redneck Day and the student council will decorate the gym for the dance throughout the day.

Saturday night, the homecoming coronation will be held in the gym with the dance lasting until 10 p.m. after coronation.

Queen candidates are Kaela Eslinger, Cortney Gross, Hailey Johnson and Samantha Long. King candidates are Dewayne Figgins, Dennis Neal and Vinh Nguyen.

Junior class attendants are Melody Hartz and Korbin Fluckey, sophomore class attendants are Addison Kerr and Xzander McVay and freshman class attendants are Christa Cass and Tyson Ross. Brilee Case and Nolan Cochran are the princess and prince, respectively.
