Nelson: Lists are a good thing, so here's mine

A few years ago, I started writing a weekly column and it flopped. I tried to be someone I’m not, so I’m going to begin writing one again, and this time, I just want to use this space to remind you of some of the things going on in the community and share some of the things going on in my life.

I’m calling this “The List” because I’m a lists person. I can’t seem to get anything accomplished unless I’m checking it off a list.

If you don’t know me, I’ve been blessed to call Greenfield home for about two years now. My wife, Kilee, and I live here in town. She works in the Creston schools and we love our home here.

We love cheering on the area sports teams, the Iowa Hawkeyes, the Green Bay Packers, being involved in our church here in town, attending our nephews’ sporting events and more. She and I each have parents and siblings close by so when we’re not out at community events covering them we are likely spending time with family or on another adventure.

We just got back Sunday from a trip to Michigan for a family wedding. It was my first time out of the central time zone, which was an experience. It was enjoyable seeing Lake Michigan from the Michigan side as it had already seen it as a child from Chicago. It is also fascinating seeing the difference in agriculture from state to state. In Michigan, we saw lots of blueberries being grown, apple orchards and Christmas tree farms, as well as the more occasional corn field.

Here are a few things on my radar for this week. I call it the list:

- This week’s issue is what we’re calling “Full Coverage”. Every residence in Greenfield will receive an Adair County Free Press this week and we hope you enjoy our product we spend a lot of time to produce. I love our team and am thankful for what each member of the team does to make the newspaper happen each week.

- The elevator project at the courthouse is about finished. There will be a ribbon cutting Sept. 25 at 10:15 a.m. While it did take longer than most of us wanted, the new elevator will be an awesome asset to the community.

- NV has a road trip this week to West Central Valley in football. I’m excited to get to watch the Wolverines play as they try to get a win with a 2-2 record. Also, a shoutout is due to Orient-Macksburg’s volleyball team for getting a win this week, snapping a skid of 31 losses.

- If you have any story ideas, send them my way. You can email me anytime at cnelson@adairpress.com. That’s the most ideal way to reach me.
