Senior citizen housing complex to receive affordable housing grant

DES MOINES – Older Iowans in the Greenfield area will benefit from $200,000 in an affordable housing grant for critical repairs to the Greenfield Senior Citizen Housing Complex, Maple Village, 308 SE Noble Street, Greenfield, IA 50849.

The award is provided through the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines (FHLB Des Moines or the Bank) Competitive Affordable Housing Program (AHP) and will be presented 1 p.m. Sept. 16. Congresswoman Cindy Axne will keynote the celebration.

The Competitive Affordable Housing Program (AHP) is one of the largest sources of private sector grants for housing and community development in the nation.

AHP encourages Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines (FHLB Des Moines or the Bank) member financial institutions to partner with local housing providers to secure funds for the purchase, construction or rehabilitation of affordable owner-occupied or rental housing units.

AHP projects serve low-to-moderate income households, and may include households with special needs including seniors, persons with disabilities and the homeless.

Since the inception of its affordable housing grant programs in 1990, including AHP, FHLB Des Moines has committed over $635 million to create homes for more than 106,000 people.

In the state of Iowa, $49.8 million has been used to support more than 11,258 families as they move into new or repaired homes.

In 2018, $52.6 million in AHP subsidies were awarded throughout the FHLB Des Moines district, consisting of 13 states and three U.S. Pacific territories.
