DES MOINES - After morning storms exit to the east by late morning, much of the rest of the day will be dry. Additional thunderstorms are expected across northern Iowa from late afternoon through tonight.
The strongest storms will occur in eastern South Dakota but as they form into a complex, they will move across northern Iowa and still be capable of damaging wind and a few may produce hail. Heavy rain will also be a concern and there is a slight risk of excessive rainfall across northern Iowa through tonight.
An active pattern will continue through mid-week bringing periodic chances for thunderstorms.
Wednesday will see storm chances mainly north through the day with best chances in the morning hours.
Thursday, storms will be ongoing north but by the afternoon a cold front will attempt to push across the state bringing widespread chances for storms...some of which may be severe. Heavy rain will be possible with any storm.
With the frontal passage by late Thursday, cooler and drier air will work into the state.
