A symbol of the community appears to be stolen

Earlier this year the Creston Service Clubs of Rotary, Kiwanis and Lions collaborated to install signage on the entrances to the community. The signs include the emblem of each service club. These signs are a token of the countless volunteer hours of service given to the community and represent the vast number of individuals and businesses that belong to these clubs and call Creston home.

It was recently discovered that one of the signs has gone missing from North Cherry Street (County Rd P33). The sign was durably constructed and set into the ground at least three feet. There is no indication that it was ran over or vandalized, just simply pulled up from the ground and removed. This would take some time and effort to do.

Calls have been made to neighbors, county engineer office and utility companies. All have stated they did not remove it. It is simply missing.

Although not proven, it appears the sign has been stolen. If this is true, it is sad.The approximate value is $500.00. The signs themselves are a symbol of their respective organizations across the world and represent their missions to service. They also give notice to those visiting community that a common bond of service thrives here.

If you know the whereabouts of the sign, please contact the Union County Sheriff’s office at 641-782-8402. A report has been filed.
