NV softball sees season come to a close

Colfax-Mingo 12, Nodaway Valley 2 (6)

COLFAX – Nodaway Valley lost to Colfax-Mingo July 10, falling 12-2 in the Class 2A Region 1 quarterfinals.

The previously ranked Tigerhawks scored three in the first inning and five in the third to give themselves an 8-1 lead before cutting the game short by run-rule in the sixth inning.

Nodaway Valley took an early lead, plating a run in the top half of the first inning. Reagan Weinheimer led off the contest with a single and after two Wolverine strikeouts Alyssa Davis knocked her in with an RBI single.

Weinheimer ended the contest with two hits, including a base hit in the fifth that allowed Corinne Bond to get into scoring position. Bond, who also had a multi-hit game, came around to score on an error later in the inning.

Nodaway Valley finished the contest with seven hits as a team, including a base knock from Maddax DeVault.

Colfax-Mingo’s Colbee Cunningham ended the night with 11 strikeouts in the circle and hit a home run to help her cause.

For NV, Natalie Yonker went three innings in the circle with a strikeouts and a pair of walks issued. Whitney Lamb followed in relief with two walks of her own.

No seniors will depart from the Wolverine squad as they will completely reload heading into next season.

Nodaway Valley closes its season 11-17 with a 3-10 record against Pride of Iowa foes.
