Area baseball roundup: Mount Ayr needs 10 to advance; SWV, EU season's end

Mount Ayr 8, West Central Valley 7 (10)

PANORA – Despite giving up two runs in the sixth, Mount Ayr battled its way through extra innings to pick up an 8-7 in 10 innings of play to advance out of the Class 2A District 14 first round.

The win sets up Mount Ayr with a district semifinal matchup against Class 2A No. 5 Van Meter (28-3) Tuesday in Van Meter.

Kolben Klommhaus had the game-winning hit for the Raiders in the 10th inning, which scored Austin Greenland. Kolben Klommhaus ended the night 3-for-5 with the game-ending RBI.

Three of the seven runs the Raiders allowed went against their pitchers as earned runs as Briar Knapp and Keelan Klommhaus combined for 18 strikeouts in the 10 innings of play.

Conner Eaton, Cayden Lambert and Knapp had RBIs in the win as well. Eaton was the only other Raider hitter to have a multi-hit performance, going 2-4 at the dish with a double, two runs, three stolen bases and a walk drawn.

Bedford 6, Southwest Valley 0

LAMONI – Southwest Valley trailed heading into the sixth inning Saturday against Bedford, but three runs for the Bulldogs in the sixth inning sealed the deal.

In their opening round matchup in Class 1A District 13, the Timberwolves managed four hits – one from Teagan Lundquist, Tyler Pearson, Dustin Lund and Brendan Pearson.

Aiden Gaule went 5 1/3 innings on the hill while taking the loss. Only three of the six runs that crossed the plate went down as earned against Gaule.

The loss closes the T’Wolves 2019 season with an 8-12 record and SWV will lose seniors Lundquist, Lund, Gaule, Evan Davis and Scotty Adcock to graduation.

Lamoni 10, East Union 0 (5)

LAMONI – East Union bowed out of the 2019 postseason with a 10-0 loss to Lamoni Saturday in Lamoni in five innings.

The Demons put up runs in every frame, including three in the first and second innings to take a quick 6-0. Lamoni freshman shortstop Javin Evans was 2-for-4 with four RBIs in the win.

Complete stats for East Union were unavailable Sunday night.

The Eagles wrap up the year with a 2-18 record and will lose lone senior Joshua Hardy to graduation.
